Why do we have these British values?

These fundamental values have been developed by the UK Government as part of the PREVENT strategy (2011) in an attempt to create social unity and prevent extremism.

Extremism is defined in the PREVENT strategy as;

“vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs.”

At Cromer Academy, we actively support, promote and encourage these British values alongside our own school values.

Equality

We’re an inclusive school where we focus on the well-being and progress of every child and where all members of our community are of equal worth. We believe that the Equality Act provides a framework to support our commitment to valuing diversity, tackling discrimination, promoting equality of opportunity and fostering good relationships between people. It also ensures that we continue to tackle issues of disadvantage and underachievement of different groups.

We are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity in line with the Equality Act 2010. We want to reduce disadvantages, discrimination and inequalities of opportunity, and promote diversity in terms of our pupils, our workforce and the community in which we work.
